The Kiwi Makes a Startling but Careful Comeback
By Pete McKenzie, May 17th, 2024
At last count, and after two and a half huge months of collaborative mahi/ work, 217 kiwi were transferred from Sanctuary Mountain® Maungatautari to Taranaki Mounga, Tongariro, and the Capital Kiwi Project (Wellington) from March to May of 2024. This programme is a partnership between Save the Kiwi, Ngaati Koroki Kahukura, Pukeatua School, the Wellington Aero Club, receiving sites and many generous iwi who are kaitiaki across the western region of the North Island for kiwi, and partners.
