Warmest wishes for a safe and happy festive season from the Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari team.
Meri Kirihimete
As we reflect on the past year, we are filled with gratitude for your support and dedication to our mission. With special thanks to Ngāti Koroki Kahukura, Ngāti Hauā, and Raukawa, our partners, sponsors, landowners, volunteers, and community. Your contributions have been instrumental in preserving and protecting the unique biodiversity of Maungatautari and together we have achieved remarkable milestones, including:
Translocating 222 North Island brown kiwi from Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari to other parts of the North Island through the largest translocation project in the country, working alongside Save the Kiwi and iwi partners.
Advancing the habitat trial and learnings with three male kākāpō living on the maunga, working with the Kākāpō Recovery Team and Ngāi Tahu.
Hosting over 20,000 visitors through our visitor experiences and education programme, including welcoming over 4,000 students to the maunga.
Celebrating the hatching of three takahē chicks this season.
Raising $75,000 through our successful Gala Dinner & Art Auction evening.
Despite these achievements, we continue to face financial challenges and the need to secure long-term, self-sustaining funding remains critical, and a key focus for us in 2025.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the opportunities the new year brings from a biodiversity and conservation perspective as well as a visitor experiences one. Incidentally - watch this space for the launch of our new Kiwi Experiences as part of 2025's translocation season!
Thank you again for joining us on this journey. We wish everyone a happy and safe festive season and we look forward to a year of growth and success together.
Ngā mihi nui,
Helen and the Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari Team
