21 April 2022
In April, Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari hosted a Teacher Professional Development Day focussing on conservation education and wellbeing – learning IN the environment. This professional development day was created and delivered in collaboration with Tash Kingsford, Community Ranger from the Department of Conservation. Our workshop was fully subscribed, and the teachers were grateful for the opportunity to be invited to spend the day in the ngahere. Teachers experienced learning activities in the environment and participated in some wellbeing activities for themselves too - supported by Rosie our wellbeing coordinator. By the end of the workshop, teachers left and equipped with practical resources and their own experiences from the day spent at Maungatautari, ready to plan for teaching conservation education in their classrooms.
“We just want to thank you for the great PD day last Friday, it's been quite a term and having the opportunity to spend time at Sanctuary Mountain was just what we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and learned so much - we feel so much more prepared for our visit in November as a result.” – Tokoroa Intermediate teachers.
A second teacher professional development day is planned in partnership with DOC for 17 September of this year as listed in the Kirikiriroa Environmental Educators Calendar for 2022. This workshop will focus on Conservation and Biodiversity – learning ABOUT the environment. Keep an eye out for our newsletters and social media pages closer to the time to sign up when registrations are open.
