Korakonui Scool presented Sanctuary Mountain with 12 rat trap boxes, built by the students as part of their community service work at school.
On Friday August 5th, Year 7 and 8 students from nearby Korakonui School visited Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari and presented a donation of 12 rat trap boxes, built by the students as part of their community service work at school.
Instructions for the box specifications were provided to the school and a wonderful parent helper worked to cut the materials to size for the students who then assembled the boxes. After presenting their finished rat trap boxes, Biosecurity Team Leader Owen spoke with the class about how the boxes will assist with our pest control programme and Assets and Operations Team Leader James shared his kÅrero with the class and introduced them to Rua, his rat conservation dog too.
Students were then given the opportunity to experience the sanctuary with educators Tali and Sue to see why keeping Maungatautari pest-free is so important. This visit was a great kick starter for further conservation learning their teacher has planned for them this term at school. Thank you for your awesome mahi Korakonui School and keep up the great work!
