Maungatautari Pūrākau

The Maungatautari Pūrākau self-guided audio tour shares cultural stories about Maungatautari from the perspective of mana whenua – Ngāti Koroki-Kahukura. Listen to five wonderful stories using the Arataki Cultural Trails app:

• Maunga stories
• Waka building tikanga
• Te paki o Matariki
• Bird communication
• The Māori story of creation

The stories are experienced at points along the Rātā track walk in Te Tūī a Tāne southern enclosure.

Get the app

Download and install the app to your smart phone from arataki.app/download/. Refer to the information sheet for instructions on the use of the app and how to install it.

How to use the Arataki Cultural Trails app

1. Open the Arataki Cultural Trails app on your smart phone.
2. Register OR continue as a guest.
3. Pinch and zoom to explore the in-app map.
4. Find Maungatautari on the map and choose a story.
5. Stories are represented by teal coloured pins.
6. Each story is marked with a physical QR code on a fence post or bench seat around the Rātā track.
7. Tap the pin that matches the name of the story on the QR code that you are close to.
8. Tap the SCAN icon at the bottom of the screen and scan the QR code.
9. The use of headphones is recommended to enhance your experience.
10. Enjoy listening to the stories!
