We are looking for a Ranger (Operations and Pest Surveillance).

A position has opened in the Sanctuary Mountain Team!  We are looking for a Ranger (Operations and Pest Surveillance).  In the Pest Surveillance Team, you will work to ensure effective pest surveillance procedures, monitoring, pest incursion responses and reporting are implemented at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari.  The work in the Operations Team will involve Xcluder fence maintenance and repair, road and track maintenance and repair, vegetation management, working with large machinery (diggers), chainsaws, and other tools.  This role will involve on-call work, including weekends and nights on a rostered basis.  The work between the two teams will be divided 3:2 for Pest:Operations.

A relevant tertiary qualification or substantial experience in ecological restoration, pest eradication, ecology and project implementation, and the following are desirable:

A passion to work with others to help protect and enhance Maungatautari and a deep understanding of community conservation project management
Physically fit and happy working in all weather conditions
Good understanding of and willingness to follow Health and Safety legislation, policies, plans and practice
Understanding farming communities and the annual cycle of their activities.
Experience in statutory natural heritage processes
Experience in stakeholder liaison
Proven proficiency in the use of technology
NZ Drivers Licence and ability to travel and work outside of normal hours
Chainsaw qualification and experience
Strong knowledge and experience in facility maintenance and field work including fencing
Experience in using power tools including polesaws and other motorised plant/equipment
Experience in using large machinery e.g. diggers, front-end loaders
4WD and quad bike certification
First aid certificate (current)
You must be able to demonstrate your commitment and ability to incorporating a strong component of tikanga and kaitiakitanga within the operational programmes.
