Education Coding Challenge

What is it? A friendly challenge running until the end of Term 3 where you get to develop your coding skills. All entries will go into a draw to win a free trip to the maunga for the winning students' class.*

Who can take part? Anyone! From learners in the Waikato to those overseas. From pre-schoolers to college students. You could enter individually, as a group or as a whole class.

Why have a Coding Challenge? To raise awareness of conservation challenges and share stories about our native flora and fauna while gaining some valuable coding skills.

How do I take part? Use the examples, inspiration and coding help pages to get started on your project. Then use the enter now page to share your mahi.

*Limit of one class (30 students). Trip to be organised by the end of Term 4 2024.

Kia ora!

Thanks for checking out our Coding Challenge. At Sanctuary Mountain® Maungatautari we have 47km of Xcluder® pest-proof fence to keep introduced predators out. This provides a safe space for our many native (momo Māori) and endemic (momo taketake) species.

There are lots of ways you can do your bit to help our native and endemic species. One way is by raising awareness so more people know about the challenges they face.

Your mission is to use coding to create a project that shows what you've learnt about our native flora and fauna and also teaches other people about them. Your project could be about:

- ngā manu / birds
- ngā rākau / trees
- ngā moko / reptiles
- ngā ngārara / insects
- momo rāwaho / introduced species

Have Fun!
Ngā mihi!

NothIsland kākā - one of our bird species
