An update from the Maungatautari History Book Volunteers Group

Since our last update in the December issue of the Maunga Matters newsletter our group has continued to capture some wonderful stories from volunteers and supporters about the Maungatautari project, especially in the early years. The closing date for receiving the stories has just passed.  At that time we had reviewed our objectives and decided to go ahead with a modest self-published book of volunteer stories because there was no funding available.

However at our last meeting we learned the Trust have now decided to support the original concept of a glossy coffee table style book (as planned 3 years ago) as there may be a source of funding for this.  It is still not definite, and any funds could be 2 to 3 years away.

In the interim – as a sort of stop gap before too many more of us "fall off our perches", our group is still considering self-publishing a collection of interesting volunteer stories. It will just be for volunteers involved in the project and not intended for the wider market so the business side of the Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari project and staff activities will be left for the future.

Enjoy the video below of a recent gathering of our committee to celebrate the collection of our stories:
